Interview with SImon procter for MULL IT OVER

Interview  with SImon procter for MULL IT OVER
A series of web based interviews with innovative contemporary photographers from around the world.

JONATHAN CHERRY: What gets you out of bed in the morning?
SIMON PROCTER: Fear it might be all too late.
JC: Are there any emerging artists inspiring you at the moment?
SP: Many many but I don’t remember their names very well I’m afraid and I apologise for that. I admire greatly strong work but my all consuming interest in most things is how it can be used to make what I’m doing better. I’m studying a lot of film at the moment & I also liked Le Gun very much. It’s an underground british illustration magazine
JC: Where are you from?
SP: Northern England, raised in Royston near Barnsley in the riding of South Yorkshire, tough little pit village but good people.
JC: Do you currently have a personal project on the go?
SP: Too many, have been working on a film for a while and I’m constantly trying to reinterpret fashion photography as fine art.
JC: Any wise words to recent photography graduates?
SP: Editing, lots of editing and thinking and rethinking about what you have done and how it can be done better. You should be lying awake at night fretting how something can come together. & integrity does matter despite what people say. Most importantly you have to make it happen, finish things, get things done.
JC: Other thoughts?
SP: There are no good or bad subjects. Anything done the right way, done with a ferocious integrity can transcend its own medium.
Kubrik is a great best example of this.
